Letter from the Class President

January, 2012

Dear Classmate,

I hope that 2012 brings you and your family much health (can’t over emphasize health at our age) and happiness.  I’ll make this letter brief. We have the following items to report:

1. Alumni Day

This year Alumni Day is Saturday, February 25. Class tables are reserved based on the number of classmates who pre-register for Alumni Day. So go to http://alumni.princeton.edu/goinback/alumniday/, or call 609-258-1900, to pre-register and view the schedule of the day's events.

2. Reunions

Please mark May 31 to June 3 on your calendar as we celebrate our 39th Reunion. Our Class lunch will take place on Saturday, June 2 just before the P-rade in our usual spot between the Chapel and McCosh 10. There will be no charge for general admission to Reunions. Once again, the Class Officers have decided to waive the $30 per head charge for the lunch. If you are interested in attending the lunch, please complete the form and send it to Barry Richardson, our Reunions Chair. Last year we had a 60th Birthday which was relevant for about 80% of the class. To be politically correct, lets not forget the other 20% who are turning 60 this year (Jane Leifer, I would never forget your 60th birthday).

3. Planning Reminder for our 40th Reunion

It’s hard to believe but we will be celebrating our 40th Reunion in less than 17 months. This is a major undertaking as we plan activities for 500 or so classmates and their families. Our Reunions Chair, Barry Richardson, can’t do it by himself. If you would like to help please contact me (jimdiorio@alumni.princeton.edu) or Barry (brichar906@aol.com). We need help with food, beverages, registration, housing, entertainment, costumes, etc.

4. Class Dues

Please remember to pay your Class dues if you haven’t already done so. Last year we received payments from just 25 % of our classmates. The Class has three significant expenses every year, totaling $17,000. The PAW costs $13,400, Alumni Council dues are $1,000 and mailings are$2,600. You don’t have to be on the Deficit Reduction Committee to calculate that we need 340 classmates (about 35%) to pay dues just to break even. You can send a check for $50 payable to “Princeton-Class of 1973” and mail it in the enclosed envelope to our capable Treasurer, Mac Brown.

5. Princeton Alumni Weekly

The PAW has been greatly updated with interactive on-line capabilities. I recommend you visit the website at paw.princeton.edu.

6. Class Activities

Local mini-Reunions have turned out to be surprisingly enjoyable and popular with other Classes. It is a convenient way to reconnect with friends (or friendly acquaintances) with whom you may have had minimal contact, at Princeton and thereafter. Many new friendships have been formed as a result of unknown connections and common interests. If you might be interested in hosting a local mini-Reunion, please let me know. The Class will provide financial support.

7. Class News

Our Class Secretary, Nancy Cassels, thanks you for keeping her informed of the activities of Class members. Keep the news coming! You can e-mail Nancy at ncassels@interlog.com.

8. Class History

Our Class Historian, Marta Richards, would like any Princeton memorabilia or interesting photos or articles about the Class and Classmates. You can e-mail Marta at marta73@alumni.princeton.edu.

I hope to see you at our 39th Reunion as well as upcoming class events. You will be surprised at the pleasure of renewed acquaintances and friendships. We welcome your participation. Just contact me directly at 201-404-0298 or jimdiorio@alumni.princeton.edu.

Take care and hope to see you on campus.

Regards,

Jim DiOrio
’73 Class President
